The children in this image are working a mechanized spinning jenny, a large machine that is very dangerous when safety precautions are not taken. These children are working to support their families, and sometimes themselves, as children were a part of the general workforce in the early 1900's
Mary Harris Jones was a supporter of Childrens Labor laws, as well as many other ethics issue and support movements. She led the children's march from Pennsylvania all the way to Theodore Roosevelt's house.
